Taber is a small town of 8,400 people (2016) in the Southern Alberta region of Alberta, Canada. Taber is famous for its corn due to the large amounts of sunshine the area receives, and is known as the Corn Capital of Canada.

Taber's economy is largely based on agriculture. Local produce includes hogs, beef, sheep, poultry, sugar beets, potatoes, peas, carrots, wheat, flax, barley, corn, beans, sunflowers, oats, onions, canola and mustard. Roger's Sugar is Taber's sugar beet processing plant and there are several other food processing companies based in the town.

Taber is located at the intersection of Highway 3 (Crowsnest Highway) and Highway 36 (Veterans Memorial Highway), approximately 50 km (31 mi) east of Lethbridge, 260 km (160 mi) southeast of Calgary, and 95 km (59 mi) north of the U.S. border.

The nearest international airport is the Calgary International Airport (YYC IATA), though Lethbridge Airport (YQL IATA) offers limited domestic, scheduled flights.

  • Giant Corn Stalk, 4712 50 St. Built in 1994, the 36-foot-tall corn stalk is a symbol of the famous Taber Corn.
  • Taber Cenotaph, Confederation Park (near 50 Ave & 50 St). Organized by members of the Taber Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (GWVA) in honour of the 25 men who did not return from World War I. A local veteran posed for a picture, the photographs were then sent to Italy, where master sculptors completed what is said to be one of the most perfect replica of a Canadian soldier.
  • Taber Irrigation Impact Museum, 4702 50 St, +1 403-223-5708. May-Aug: M-F 9AM-5PM, Sa 9AM-4PM; Sept: M-F 9AM-4PM; Oct-Apr: Tu-Th 9AM-4PM. The museum focuses on the impact of irrigation on Taber’s development. It showcases the irrigation systems and processes from early labour-intensive methods to the current computer technologies that growers use. By donation.

  • Cornfest, +1 403-223-2265. last weekend in August. Cornfest is an annual summer festival held on the last full weekend in August, and includes a midway (rides, booths, and tests of skill) and a stage with performers. It is the largest free family festival in Western Canada, and is organized by the Taber and District Chamber of Commerce. There are a number of corn-based activities, such as corn tasting and stuffing. Corn stuffing involves two people, one wearing an oversized coverall. One of the contestants attempts to stuff as much corn as possible into the other's coverall. Whichever team can put the most corn in the coveralls in the allotted time wins. During Cornfest, large-scale, local corn producers enter their best varieties in the 'Best Corn of the Year' award.
  • Fishing, Taber has fishing opportunities at the Trout Pond as well as the Oldman, Bow, and South Saskatchewan Rivers; guided tours available.
  • Taber also has a golf course, splash park, skate park, indoor swimming pool, and arena.

  • M.D. of Taber Park, Hwy 864 (5 min north of Taber on Hwy 864), +1 403-223-0091. Located in the Oldman River Valley.
  • Grand Forks Park & Campground (33 km east of Taber to Grassy Lake, 6 km north of Grassy Lake). It's at the confluence of the Bow and Oldman Rivers, where they become the South Saskatchewan River. This spot is home to Sturgeon spawning grounds and is considered one of the best fishing locations in Southern Alberta.
