Africa > West Africa > Senegal > Northern Senegal > Podor

Podor is a town in Northern Senegal. It is the northernmost town in Senegal, and perhaps the quaintest.

Understand

[edit]
Podor along the river

Podor was a French trading post in the 18th century, and the ruins of their fort remain in town. The town of 12,000 people (2007) stretches along the banks of the Senegal River, its buildings painted in fitting earthen tones. There isn't much to do, per se, in Podor, except soak up its charming atmosphere. Podor is the home town of the famed Senegalese musician Baaba Maal, and there's a good chance you'll run into one of his "relatives" here.
