Asia > Southeast Asia > Vietnam > Northern Vietnam > Dong Dang

Dong Dang is a town in northern Vietnam, near Pingxiang just across the Chinese border.

Get in

[edit]

Once you cross the border from Pingxiang to Vietnam, there are several taxis waiting for you. Prices should be around US$5 and it takes about 15 min to Dong Dang. The taxi will probably take you to some private minibus company which will offer you transportation to Hanoi. Initially, they will ask US$10/person, but don't pay more than US$5/person. The trip to Hanoi takes a few hours.

To Pingxiang, China (凭祥):

  • You can catch a local bus from Hanoi's eastern bus station (Ben Xe Street, Gia Lam District, +86 4 827 1529 to Lang Son, where you have to switch transport to minibus or motorbike to reach the border at Dong Dang. Alternatively there are many offers from open-tour providers; for those in a hurry, they might be a good option if they offer a direct hotel to border crossing transfer. You can change money with freelance money changers, but check the rate carefully beforehand. Border formalities take about 30 minutes. On the Chinese side, walk up past the "Friendship-gate" and catch a taxi (bargain hard!) to Pingxiang, Guangxi. A seat in a minibus is cheaper. There is a Bank of China branch across the street from the main bus station; the ATM accepts Maestro cards. You can travel by bus or train to Nanning.
