Maltahöhe is a village in the Hardap region of central Namibia.

Understand

[edit]

Maltahöhe was named after Malta von Burgsdorff, wife of a German imperial officer. It is one of the historic colonial places in Namibia. There is not much to see here, but its location on several regional roads make it a rather frequently visited place.

Get in

[edit]

Maltahöhe is connected via tarred road (C19) to Mariental, and via good gravel roads to Walvis Bay and Helmeringhausen (C14), to Solitaire (MR36), and to Kalkrand (C21).

[edit]

Maltahöhe has a petrol station and a general dealer.

Eat

[edit]

The general dealer on the main road offers snacks and light meals.

Drink

Sleep

[edit]
  • 1 Old Bridge campsite (2 km outside the village on the Hudup River. Situated on the old road bridge upstream the current one). 4 camping spots on the Hubup river, still being established. The place becomes muddy if it rains... but it really doesn't rain often here. Some shade from trees, and benches and tables under tin roofs. Hot and cold water and solar lights, no power sockets. The water doesn't taste very nice, bring your own to cook and drink. Owner is very friendly. 80 N$ pppn, children free.

Connect

[edit]

Maltahöhe is connected to the mobile network, both from MTC[dead link] and Telecom.

Go next

[edit]
  • Duwisib Castle on the D826, a tiny castle in Romanesque Revival architecture built by a German colonial officer. You may sleep inside the castle in the original bedrooms.
  • Sesriem and Sossusvlei, a canyon and a clay pan in the Namib Sand Sea.
This city travel guide to Maltahöhe is an outline and needs more content. It has a template, but there is not enough information present. Please plunge forward and help it grow!
