Pocahontas is the seat of Randolph County in the Delta region of Arkansas.

Understand

Pocahontas is named after the famed Native American daughter of Powhatan who had some sort of interludes with Captain John Smith, rescuing him or falling in love with him or whatever may be the case, during his escapades in starting Jamestown, Virginia. Pocahontas the town sits right on the demarcation line of the Mississippi Delta to the east and the Ozark Mountains to the west, so it makes for some interesting viewing.

See

  • 1 Overlook Park, +1 870 892-3924. This park overlooking the Black River is cool because it gives you the chance to see a recreated image of Pocahontas herself with her eyes set as though she were looking at the British ships first entering the New World. Plus if you are bored you can look and see if any water moccasins are floating down the river.
  • 2 Randolph Co Heritage Museum, 106 E Everett St, +1 870 892-4056. M-Sa 10AM-4PM. Local history museum.

Do

  • 1 Davidsonville Historic State Park, 8047 Hwy 166 S, +1 870 892-4708. Daily 8AM-5PM. This park commemorates where Arkansas' oldest town existed. With the ruins and grounds along the Black River, it makes for good exploring.
