(Redirected from Altai (disambiguation))
The Altai mountains are a mountain range in the area where Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia converge. They are the namesake of the controversial Altaic languages family, which includes Japanese, Korean, Manchu, Mongolian and the Turkic languages, though this grouping is disputed by many linguists.
They are the namesake of more than one place called Altai or Altay:
- Altai (Kazakhstan) - the easternmost region of Kazakhstan
- Altai (Mongolia) (also known as Altay) - capital city of Govĭ-Altai province
- Altai Tavan Bogd National Park - in Bayan-Ulgii province
- Govĭ-Altai - a province in the Gobi region
- Altai Republic - a republic in Western Siberia
- Altai Krai - a region in Western Siberia
