Anapa is in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, on the east coast of the Black Sea.

The town is ancient; it was originally a Greek colony named Sinda, rebuilt as a Greek town named Gorgrippia in the 6th century BCE, and given its current name around the 3rd century CE.
