Camiling is a town located in the province of Tarlac in Central Luzon, the Philippines.

Understand

[edit]

Camiling is one of the fastest-growing towns of Tarlac when it comes to income and economy. It is a culturally and historically-rich town of more than 80,000 residents, complete with its historic baroque-style church, a museum dedicated to the real-life Maria Clara, and delicious "chicharón and iniruban" delicacies.

Camiling is sometimes called the "Old Lady in the Northwestern province of Tarlac" because it is one of the oldest municipality created by the Spanish government under the province of Pangasinan, where it previously included the former barrios (now towns) of Mayantoc, San Clemente, and Santa Ignacia.

The Old Camiling Church
  • 1 Old St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church. Oldest religious structure in Tarlac, built around the 18th century. It was here where Gen. Pedro Pedroche and his men were executed by Gen. Francisco Makabulos and the revolutionary troops, executed on charges of rebellion at the orders of Gen. Antonio Luna. But sadly, the church was gutted by fire in 1997, and it has yet to be restored. Heritage advocates and Camiling locals have been campaigning for the restoration of the church after the reports came out in March 2018.
  • 2 New St. Michael The Archangel Parish Church.
  • 3 Maria Clara (Leonor Rivera-Kipping) House, Rizal Street. This house was owned by Leonor Rivera who could have been Mrs. Jose Rizal. They were in a relationship for 11 years. Leonor's mother don't like the rebellious Jose and intercepted the letters of the young lovers. Leonor, convinced by her mother that Jose no longer love her, reluctantly married the Englishman Henry Kipping. Leonor is said to be the inspiration for Jose Rizal's Maria Clara in "Noli Mi Tangere". As of Mar 2022, The house is not open for public but have retained the structure.
