Camocim Lighthouse

Camocim is a beach town in western Ceará. Parts of its more glorious past as an agriculture export port can be felt if walking in the area near the former train station. This era came to a halt when the river changed its course, and ships could no longer pass its mouth. Today its a genuine Cearense fishing town.

Get in[edit]

Most people arrive from Jericoacoara (4x4 truck once a day R$ 25) or Parnaíba (a couple of daily buses by Guanabara [1] R$ 13, several minibuses) in neighbouring state of Piauí. It is also the most accessible beach for the population of Sobral (Several buses daily, -some continue to Fortaleza).

Get around[edit]

Mostly walkable, otherwise there are mototaxis.

Most shops close for lunch.

  • El Mirador, Avenida Beira Mar (1 km northwest of town). Nice view, good seafood, good beach just below. Many dishes at R$ 20-30 for two..

Plenty of sidewalk cafés along the riverfront.

Many pousadas along the riverfront. Simpler and cheaper options near the bus station.

  • Pousada da Ponta Porá, Avenida Beira Mar (Right in front of the ferry landing). Spacious rooms, decent breakfast. Single R$ 30.

Go next[edit]

Cross the river to Ilha dos Amores, a deserted dune beach.
