The "Crying Tunnel" in Conservatória

Conservatória is a town in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the Southeast of Brazil.


Get in[edit]

  • Coming from São Paulo via BR-116 (Dutra), take BR-393 at the entrance to Volta Redonda and continue on for 41 km to the entrance to Barra do Piraí. There, turn left on RJ-137 and continue for 26 kilometers more.
  • Coming from Rio de Janeiro via BR-116 (Dutra), take RJ-145 at Piraí and then on to RJ-137 at Barra do Piraí.

  • Arcos Bridge (Ponte dos Arcos). Built in 1884.
  • Casario Colonial.
  • Crying Tunnel (Túnel que Chora).
  • Igreja Matriz de Santo Antônio.
  • Maria Medianeira School (Escola Maria Medianeira). Built in 1858.
  • Old Train Station (Antiga Estação Ferroviária). Built in 1882, today it serves as the bus station.
  • Serra da Beleza.
  • Vicente Celestino Museum (Museu Vicente Celestino).


  • Bicame Falls (Cachoeira Bicame). On the Bonito River.
  • India Falls (Cachoeira da Índia).
  • Miguel Leite Falls (Cachoeira do Miguel Leite).
  • Pedro Carlos Falls (Cachoeira de Pedro Carlos).
  • São Fernando Falls (Cachoeira São Fernando).
  • Widow's Falls (Cachoeira da Viúva).
