Akwanga is a city and local government in Nasarawa State of North Central Nigeria. It is home to the second indigenous private polytechnic in Northern Nigeria.

The languages spoken in and around Akwanga is dominantly the indigenous Mada and other Plateau language groups are Koro, Hyamic, Ndunic, Alumic, Ninzic, Eggonic, and Jilic. Akwanga is considered the center of education in Nasarawa state for its wide array of primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

In Akwanga, one of the most popular modes of transportation are tricycles. These tricycles are also referred to as "Keke". They may not be fast but they are affordable and also convenient.
