Bahasa Indonesia: Secara geologis, Karangsambung berada pada kawasan Pegunungan Serayu Selatan. Seringkali disebut dengan istilah Kebumen High. Di Karangsambung terdapat Cagar Alam Geologi Nasional yang dikelola LIPI, karena peran pentingnya dalam percaturan ilmu geologi. Di sinilah proses-proses geologi dan geomorfologi memungkinkan manusia menemukan lapisan batuan yang berumur antara 125 - 65 juta tahun. Lapisan yang seharusnya ada di kedalaman bumi tersebut kondisi sekarang berada di permukaan bumi karena proses tumbukan lempeng tektonik.
Setiap tahun, ratusan mahasiswa geologi dan ilmu kebumian lainnya mendatangi tempat ini untuk memahami proses-proses geologi yang terjadi jutaan tahun yang lalu. |
