Model release[edit]

Very cool photo. A quick note on the model release -- when I uploaded Image:21-yosemite-half-dome-cables.jpg I did a lot of reading, and photos of people that are not identifiable (ie the back of someone's head) do not need model releases when the person is not the primary subject of the photo. So in this case, since the photo is of the Brooklyn Bridge and none of the subjects are identifiable, no model release should be required. In addition, if any of the kids had been identifiable, my understanding is that their legal guardian would have had to be the one to grant a model release, not the principal.

Just noting that here in case anyone looks to this photo in the future as a guide for model releases - I'm sure Mark added the info solely in the interest of making it crystal clear that the image doesn't violate anyone's rights. Again, very cool shot! -- (WT-en) Ryan 15:56, 15 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Yeah, That wasn't meant as a proper model release, but as you point out it shouldn't be strictly necessary in this case. Actually my plan with this photo and with the one of Vevey was to wait and see if there might be any objections before trying to use them in an article (if ever). If folks think they are in-appropriate then I'll vote to delete them myself (as well as doing the honors). -- (WT-en) Mark 02:42, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
My reading of the Project:Image policy is that images should be of the places that they present, and as long as a person isn't the subject of the image then there is no issue with showing people at a place (provided a model release is obtained). Thus a park showing people relaxing is fine, but a picture of someone's girlfriend at a park is not. In the case of your Brooklyn Bridge image, not only is it a good illustration of the bridge, but showing people walking across it presents an activity that many travelers might want to do. So long as it doesn't remain an orphan I would very much vote against deleting it, should such a vote occur. -- (WT-en) Ryan 04:34, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Editing[edit]

Of course as with anything on Wikivoyage if anybody wants to photoshop this to straighten up the horizon please feel free. Of course you could crop me or the kids out as well, but I don't think that's legally necessary. Maybe it would make it a better travel guide photo? Maybe not.

Anyhow I didn't straighten it because Allegra likes it better as-is, but it's a Wiki so this is a community decision, right? -- (WT-en) Mark 02:57, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
