I actually think it's pretty good in concept - you've obviously put some thought into the process, which is what we're after! The premise of moving from scribbled notes to the reality of travel is a very effective one.... Are you planning on refining the logo any further? I'd certainly like to try refining it further... do you think I should extend the coloured part of the plane into the drawing itself, like the word "travel" below? Notes on revision 2

I've made the following changes:

• Extended the "real" part of the plane into the drawing, so it's clearer that the plane is "emerging" from the drawing.
• Changed the tail completely - the old one looked like a duck's foot or something.
• Changed the typeface of the word "travel" to Coolvetica (since everyone else is using it). If anyone has any recommendations for a typeface or colour that would look good on here, I'd like to give them a go.

I quite like it. I like the idea of the handwritten "wiki" joining the Coolvetica "travel". In a lot of ways it's more distinct and says more about the project than my entry. I do wonder if it could somehow be made more generic than just an airplane. Perhaps if the text only were introduced as a logotype, with a number of graphic treatments used over time with various modes of transport emerging from that notebook page?

I guess what I'm saying is that I love the Illustration, but I don't think it's a logo. The cool trick with the two type-stlyes is a logo, and a really good one. -- (WT-en) Mark 04:41, 25 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Here, I've separated out what to my mind is the logo part of the entry, and have made an SVG version. I did take some liberties. I thinkened up the hand drawn lines a bit "Wiki" and lowered the second "i" a fraction, then I kerned the type "travel" so that the "r" is just slightly farther from the "t" and so that the "a" "v" and "e" are closer. This way the characters all have the same amount of whitespace around them. -- (WT-en) Mark 05:05, 25 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Thank you so much for your comments, Mark. I really like your SVG-ified version of the text. I'm also flattered by your comments about the two type-styles. The "Wiki" part is actually pretty close to my natural handwriting, which I spent some years perfecting. I did move away from Coolvetica to Epilog after a friend told me Coolvetica was not the best font, but it does look very nice now you've tidied it up a bit.

Do you have the GIMP? I can give you my XCF file if you'd like to play with the whole image a bit. The plane, the notebook, "Wiki" and "travel" are all on separate layers so it's very easy to play around with. I'd love someone to add some other travel motif to the notebook, and make the scribble look more like a scribble. -- (WT-en) Owl 14:25, 25 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Thanks in return. I really think that your idea is really promising as a way to handle Wikivoyage "branding" in general, and I'm really excited about exploring ways of using the "notebook come to life" for illustrating other ways of travelling.

Your friend is right that Coolvetica has problems; try using it with any word that has an upper case "G": ick ick ick. That said I think it works well with the "travel" part of wikivoyage.

Meanwhile you should consider making a font using your handwriting. It could be cool.
