Graulhet is in the Tarn department of southern France. It used to be an important leather tanning centre, but production has moved overseas. It has some interesting historical buildings.

Get in

To go to Graulhet, the Toulouse-Blagnac airport is 30 minutes away. And to go from the airport to Graulhet, there are rental cars in Toulouse.

The town is equidistant from Castres and Albi (about 30 km away, respectively to the south-east and north-east), and 17 km to the south-east of Gaillac.

It is a little away from the A68 which links Toulouse to Albi, although it is linked there by the RD 964 to Gaillac.

Access with the national roads RN 112, RN 88, RN 664 and the departmental roads D 10, D39, D 47 and D 43.

The town is served by several regular lines of the regional bus network LiO: line 705 connects it to Albi and Lavaur; line 756 connects it to Toulouse.

There is no train to Graulhet.

To go to a lake or activities, there are bike and cars.

A public transport service, managed by Gaillac Graulhet Agglomeration and called La Navette Gratuite (the Free Shuttle), connects the town from east to west, passing through the town centre.

In Graulhet there are many places to see. There are two lakes: Nabeillou and Michelou. In Nabeillou there are many activities, for example, bike, fishing, skate park, picnic area, forests. There are many activities in this lake. Next to the cinema, La Pacerelle is very impressive to see. For the culture, it's interesting to go to the medieval district of Panesac which is in Graulhet.

Pont Vieux
  • Pont Vieux, listed as a historic monument. Built in 1244 , it allowed communication between the primitive town and the new Saint-Jean district where tanneries gradually settled on the right bank of the Dadou.
  • Medieval district of Panessac: The Panessac street is a street in the typical medieval charm: narrow, lined with half-timbered buildings and overhangs the 16th and 17th centuries. In the past, bridges connected certain houses on both sides.
Hostellerie du Lyon d'Or
  • Hostellerie du Lyon d'Or, superb medieval building, listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments. Henri de Navarre, future Henri IV, made a gourmet stopover there. Note the cross of St. Andrew, typical of the 15th century, on its beautiful facade and collating marks in Roman numerals on wood sides.
  • The Notre-Dame-du-Val-d'Amour church, at the foot of which is the funerary slab of Louis d'Amboise d'Aubijoux, classified as a Historic Monument.
  • The church of Saint-Pierre-des-Ports, former parish which was a member of the hospital commandery of Rayssac.
  • Maison des Métiers du cuir: visit an old tannery, the different stages in the transformation of leather, from skin to objects made from leather.
Château de Lézignac
  • 1 Château de Lézignac. A 16th-century castle that burned in 2017 and is in ruins. Château de Lézignac (Q21294302) on Wikidata
  • Marguerite-Yourcenar media library, a former fully renovated tavern, witness to a strong industrial past and a future geared towards the redevelopment of this city.
  • Castle Crins: 16th-century castle of the counts of Aubijoux, partially demolished and converted into a school.

In Graulhet, there are many activities like Cinema, Stadium Noel Pelissou to watch rugby match or Stadium Jonquière. There are library, petanque court at Jourdin. The library is next to the cinema. In L'Aviation, there is an aeroclub. There is Museum of Leather because Graulhet was the world city of leather.

In Graulhet to buy food, there is Leclerc. To eat and drink, there are McDonald, L'Aviation, La Coloc and others. L'Aviation is "Chez Cathy & Mathieu", it's a very beautiful restaurant and interesting because next to it, there are planes. "La Coloc " is an other restaurant.

Sleep

To sleep in Graulhet, there are "Hotel du Lac", "Le Superbe Hotel", "Chambre d'hotes" and others. "Hotel du Lac" is 100 metres from Lake Nabeillou. The price for one night is €120.

"Le Superbe Hotel" is in the centre of Graulhet. €70 is the price for this apartment.
