The two towers looking toward the Gulf of Finland – the water tower and the church tower

Hanko (Hangö in Swedish) is Finland's southernmost city. It is a major recreational marina with many or most sailboats and motorboats visiting Hanko on their way west towards the Archipelago Sea or eastwards to Helsinki. Hanko is a popular town to visit in summer and a lot of tourism ensures good services and a lot of restaurants in the marina. Hanko is also a major port for exports and imports year around.

Get in

By car

One can get to the Hanko peninsula along highway 25. The town is reached in 1,5 hours from Helsinki so it is suitable for a day trip.

By sea

Hanko is primary notable as a freight port. Navirail offers passenger and car services to Paldiski, Estonia.

The sail boat harbour is operating in the summer and very popular.

By train or by bus

All trains between Helsinki and Turku stop in Karjaa from where you can continue to Hanko by commuter train. There are buses from Helsinki to Hanko that can also be boarded in any town on the road.

Get around

Easiest way around Hanko is on foot. Most sights and services are close to the city centre and the marina. Except during the Hangon Regatta, taxis are also easily available and parking space is easy to find for own car.
