Kampar is a town in Perak, Malaysia.

Get in

Train - there is a train station in the outskirts of town

Bus - the bus station is in the middle of town with buses coming from Ipoh, Tapah, Teluk Intan, Malim Nawar and the towns along the way. Some express buses also make stops here.

Car - follow the Federal route 1. If you are using the PLUS Expressway, you need to exit the Expressway at Tapah (south of Kampar) or Gopeng (north of Kampar)

Train - take a train to Ipoh if you can wait.

Bus - buses take you North bound to Kuala Dipang, Gopeng, Simpang Pulai, Ipoh; South bound to Temoh, Tapah; to coastal town of Teluk Intan passing by Mambang Diawan, Ayer Kuning; to nearby town of Malim Nawar

  • The new UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) is just outside the town, next to KTAR (Kolej TAR)
  • Visit the old Chinese temple
  • Drive up the windy road up the slope to the hospital ground for a good view of Kampar town

  • Westlake Garden, place to exercise and relax. The picturesque 2.02ha landscaped park overlooks a huge lake with the distant hills as its backdrop. Open to the public between 7am and 7pm daily free of charge. It has a jogging track, children’s playground and a man-made waterfall and fish pond.

  • Grand Kampar Hotel, 2188, Jalan Timah, +60 5-466 2111. It's like a fortress, not quite the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai but a stately edifice, nonetheless. RM 129.
  • M Boutique Kampar, 1, Jalan Batu Karang, +60 5-467 2777. This one is pretty dark and brooding, but a big hotel nonetheless. RM 113.
  • Vista Hotel Kampar, 134-136, Jalan Idris, Kampung Masjid, +60 16-200 2822. A very cosmopolitan place to stay. RM 69.
  • Kampar Boutique Hotel, LOT553, Jalan Baru, +60 5-467 0000. This has a pretty splashy exterior from the city streets, but it's fairly basic accommodation inside. RM 65.
