Kampong Speu town is about 40 km from the outskirts from Phnom Penh. Kampong Speu Province is in western Cambodia between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. It's flatter regions are quite nondescript, but the area towards the Cardamom Mountains is well worth a visit.
- Chambok Waterfall (Chambok) (Roughly 20 km from the Sihanoukville-Phnom Penh highway). A community run eco-tourism site. The protected forest contains a 20m high waterfall which can be reached by a 3km walk. An entrance fee is charged.
- Kirirom National Park (It is accessed from Hwy 46 from Traeng Trayung on Hwy 4, Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville). This national park set up in the mountains (elevation 600-700 m)and is easily accessible. On the top of the mountain some hikes can be undertaken, some views to be had, and there are some waterfalls to be seen. This is a very popular day trip for Cambodians, and can get very busy at weekends. This popularity also means the areas surrounding the waterfalls have a litter problem.
