Lachute, population 14,100 (2021), is a town located on the north bank of the Ottawa River, in the Laurentians region of Quebec.

Lachute is a town in southwestern Quebec, located on the Rivière du Nord, a tributary of the Ottawa River. It is the seat of Argenteuil Regional County Municipality and its major industries include paper mills, lumber and various manufacturing plants.

The main attractions of Lachute are:

  • its annual exhibition (agricultural fair): this event attracts many visitors who come to see farm animals, competitions, shows, etc.;
  • Rivière du Nord which cuts the municipality in two; allowing recreational boating and fishing;
  • its range of restaurants and bars; particularly along Route 158, Avenue Béthany, and close to the A50;
  • its shops which attract many visitors, particularly holidaymakers who stock up in Lachute before going to their respective chalets
