Église de Longue-Rive

Longue-Rive is a picturesque and waterfront municipality with a huge beach at low tide in La Haute-Côte-Nord, part of the tourist region of Manicouagan in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec. It is on the Route des Baleines and the Route Nature aux mille délices (gourmet route).

The main attractions of Longue-Rive are:

  • its paradisiacal beaches: the beaches and the immense sandstone at low tide evoke the most beautiful beaches in Canada;
  • the environment of the Sault-au-Mouton river valley which constitutes a magnificent natural heritage;
  • its resort: in particular along the river and at Lac des Cèdres;
  • its fishing in lakes in the middle of nature, or on the St. Lawrence River;
  • his moose, bear and small game hunting;
  • its boating: in the summer season many boaters enjoy boating on the river;
  • its ancestral and well-restored built heritage; which gives the various villages and hamlets a picturesque and marine character;
  • its snowmobile/ATV trails: allowing access and appreciation of wild nature far in the backcountry;
  • wild camping in the backcountry:
  • Zec d'Iberville and outfitters: offering various services to fishermen, hunters and nature lovers;
  • observation of terrestrial biodiversity: colorful foliage in autumn, varied wild flora, wild fauna where the bear is king outside the hibernation season, terrestrial relief with forest cover;
  • observation of marine biodiversity: observation of large cetaceans from the shore, as well as bird species;
  • picking wild berries or mushrooms;
  • observation of the sky: the aurora borealis, the clear starry skies, the colorful sunrises/sunsets, the clouds announcing the weather to come, the migratory birds passing by in their millions in spring and autumn.

The Longue-Rive village is bypassed to the northwest by Route 138, which runs along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River.

The population of Longue-Rive is scattered along the coast in small hamlets/places (east to west): Pointe-à-Boisvert, Rivière-Éperlan, Saint-Paul-du-Nord, le Petit-Paradis, Sault -au-Mouton, Les Romaines and Petits-Escoumins.

The municipality of Longue-Rive was established in 1853.

  • From Baie-Comeau (134 km (83 mi). Time: 1 hr 33 min. From Baie-Comeau, take route 138 (north shore) west, to the village of Longue-Rive.
  • From Quebec City (279 km (173 mi). Time: 3 hr 48 min. From Quebec City, take route 138 (north shore) eastbound, via the Tadoussac ferry, to the village of Longue-Rive.

  • 1 Salt Marsh Interpretation Centre (CIMS) (Centre d'interprétation des marais salés (CIMS)), 741, route 138, +1 418-231-1077. This interpretation centre in a historic building explains the second largest salt marsh on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. Wildlife and bird viewing is available on a balcony and a walking path. free.

  • Festivent de Longue-Rive. A family and festive event featuring shows of kites, paramotoring, parachuting, beach buggy, windsurfing and kitesurfing. This Festivent proves to be the meeting of professionals in these fields.
  • Festival des oiseaux migrateurs de la Côte-Nord (de Tadoussac à Forestville) (North Shore Migratory Bird Festival (from Tadoussac to Forestville)). This municipality has on its territory one of the largest salt marshes in Quebec. Several species of migrating shorebirds shelter in these marshes, including dabbling ducks, passerines and shorebirds (waders). Ornithologist guides can accompany amateurs during their ornithological discoveries. This festival is under the aegis of the Tadoussac Bird Observatory in association with QuébecOiseaux.
