Maricá is a municipality in Grande Niterói, a part of the region of Grande Rio, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Understand

[edit]

Maricá is the last municipality on the sea coast of the metropolitan agglomeration of Rio de Janeiro to the east. It has many areas of environmental protection within its territory, as well as various lagoons and a single and very long strip of sand that stretches approximately 35 km along the coast of Maricá - almost the entire coast of the municipality.

The RJ-106 is the main highway of Maricá, which crosses the municipality from the extreme west to the extreme east, and through which the urban expansion of the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro reached the downtown area of Maricá, where it ended along this vector.

Get in

The major airports in the state are Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG IATA). and Santos Dumont Airport (SDU IATA)., and the main bus station served by buses coming from outside the Grande Rio area is Rodoviária Novo Rio., so it is probable that the visitor arrives in the metropolitan area through the state capital. Those visitors who enter the metropolitan area through the Central Zone can go to the municipality of Maricá by using one of the several urban bus and van lines available in downtown. Some bus lines to Maricá depart from Terminal Menezes Côrtes, in Castelo, and from the Candelária region - both in downtown Rio de Janeiro. The vans to Maricá depart from the Central do Brasil region.

The main road access to Maricá for those coming from the Rio de Janeiro downtown area is the RJ-106 highway.
