The Northern Coast region of Peru includes the departments of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Ancash. It offers many archaeological sites, beaches, surfing, and thermal baths.

  • 1 Casma — a city near Chanquillo, an archaeological site dated to the 4th century BC that is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO
  • 2 Chimbote — the largest fishing port in the world, it also has some excellent
  • 3 Puerto Malabrigo — known by surfers for having the world's longest left hand wave
  • 4 Chiclayo — a lively city with several archeological sites and museums
  • 5 Los Organos — a very quiet and tranquil beach town
  • 6 Piura — one of the best places to eat in Perú, especially for the ceviche
  • 7 Sechin — close to Cerro Sechin archeological site
  • 8 Sullana Sullana on Wikipedia — provincial capital with nice weather
  • 9 Talara Talara on Wikipedia — port and oil town, with an airport, petrified trees and an abundance of other fossils
  • 10 Trujillo — close to archaeological sites of the Chimu civilization
  • 11 Tumbes — a gritty town, gateway to beaches, mangroves and national parks
  • 12 Zorritos — it has thermal baths and beaches

The border crossing at the coast with Ecuador is near the border town of Aguas Verdes (Peru) and Huayaquillas (Ecuador). There are several international buses which make the crossing and wait at the immigration office.

The Ruta nacional PE-1 begins, which is the Peruvian section of the Pan-American Highway, is completely asphalted. It runs along the entire coast from Aguas Verdes at the Ecuadorian border, passing through Lima and end after Tacna at the border crossing with Chile called Santa Rosa.
