From Wikivoyage

Northwest Bandung contains some of Bandung's main shopping centres, from the Jalan Cihampelas 'jeans street' to the extensive Paris Van Java shopping mall. Northwest Bandung also includes the main road into the mountains of Lembang, and Bandung's airport.

Get in

[edit]

By car

[edit]

The main road to enter the area is the Pasteur toll road, a short branch of the Padaleunyi toll road connecting Bandung to the suburb of Cimahi, and to Jakarta. Especially during weekends and holidays, the 1 Pasteur toll gate is often severely congested, with waiting times of more than an hour not uncommon. In Northwest Bandung, the Pasteur toll road continues as the Jl. Dr. Djunjunan (generally known as Jalan Pasteur) towards North Bandung. Other key roads into Northwest Bandung include Jl. Pasir Kaliki from Central Bandung, and Jl. Setiabudhi from the northern mountains of Lembang.

By bus

[edit]

For getting around in Bandung by public transport, you can take a bus or angkot (public minivan). Angkots follow a fixed route (there are various routes throughout the city), but there is no fixed schedule and there are no fixed stops. To get on, simply raise your hand. To get off, shout "Kiri!" to the driver, so he will pull over on the left (Indonesian: kiri) side of the road. The price of an angkot ride within the city is usually about Rp2,000 to 5,000. It is best to ask a local which angkot route to take, and how to recognise the location you want to get off.

The main bus and angkot stops in Northwest Bandung are Terminal Ciroyom (next to Ciroyom railway station) and 2 Terminal Ledeng (in the north of the area). From both locations, there are angkot in to various destinations throughout the city. From the Ledeng terminal there are also buses to the major Leuwi Panjang bus terminal in South Bandung and to the suburbs Lembang and Cimahi. Angkot routes also pass through many other streets in Northwest Bandung.

By train

[edit]

There are two operational railway stations along the southern edge of Northwest Bandung, being 3 Cimindi railway station and 4 Ciroyom railway station. Both stations serve a few daily local trains to and from other stations in the city, and to suburbs such as Cimahi. Long-distance trains do not call here. For travelling by public transport within the city, it is usually easier and faster to use buses and angkot (public minivans).

By plane

[edit]

Bandung's international airport, 5 Husein Sastranegara Airport (BDO IATA), is in Northwest Bandung. A few angkot routes pass along the airport terminal, with routes 13 and 14 providing connections to Bandung's main railway station. Another option to get from the airport into the city is by taxi. There are no metered taxis available at the airport. You will need to buy an airport taxi ticket at the taxi booth near arrival exit gate. Most hotels provide free airport transfer services.

1 Villa Isola (Gedung Rektorat UPI), Jl. Dr. Setiabudi 229. Art-deco villa building designed by architect C.P.W. Schoemaker. It was built in 1932 for media tycoon D.W. Berretty. It lies in the northern part of Bandung, overlooking the city to south and the Tangkuban Perahu volcano to the north. Villa Isola and its 2 gardens have a magnificent design by its architect, combining the unique landscape and the Indo-European architectural style. The monumental building was later used as a hotel, named Hotel de Luxe. Now it serves as the rectorate building of the Indonesian University of Education (UPI), and it is surrounded by the university's campus. The building cannot be entered, but the surrounding gardens are public, and the building can be seen from all angles.
  • 2 Cipaganti Mosque (Masjid Besar Cipaganti), Jl. Cipaganti No. 85. Mosque designed by Dutch architect C.P.W. Schoemaker, built in 1933. It was the only mosque that was built in the European residential area in the northern part of Bandung. • 3 Pasteur Institute (Bio Farma), Jl. Pasteur No. 28. Built in 1923 to a design by C.P.W. Schoemaker, for the Pasteur Institute of the Dutch East Indies, for research and production of vaccinations. The institute still exists (as a state-owned enterprise), but now under the name Bio Farma. The name of the Pasteur Institute remains as the namesake of the street, as well as the Pasteur toll gate.
