Providencia is a small town on the border of the Central Valley and South Costa Rica.

Understand[edit]

The village is settled into two valleys and tourists are not really common here even in high season.

Get in[edit]

At Ojo de Agua (Km 75) you have got to leave the Panamerican Highway coming from San José direction South Costa Rica. From the highway, it is 14 km dirt road. 4WD recommended. It is also a walkable (4 hr).

Get around[edit]

A car or motorbike is a nice thing to have but with a good will most of the destination are in walking distance.

See[edit]

  • Quetzals

Do[edit]

  • Climbing. There are at least six rocks within walking distance of the village. Bouldering is great and there is a local school run by Canadians which might rent out crash-pads. The kids from that school are great guides.
  • Biking. There are several tours you can make in the village but it is not flat mountain biking.
  • Hiking. There are some guides which offer tours. One of the most spectacular ones are apparently the three days walk to the pacific ocean.

Buy[edit]

Eat & drink[edit]

There is a bar/restaurant which offers dinner and lunch.

Sleep[edit]

There are two cabins (₡5,000 per person) and they've got a space for camping (₡500 per person).
