San Carlos is in Negros Occidental. Although the province name translates as Western Negros, this city is actually on the east coast of the island.

San Carlos is a relatively small city (130,000 in 2010 census) but has an excellent harbor and is a moderately important port.
Get in
There are buses from the other main cities of Negros Island. The route from Bacolod (₱140, 2.5 hours) goes through mountains but the bus from Dumaguete runs through gentler terrain along the coast.
There are ferries across the Tañon Strait to Toledo on Cebu Island, ₱225 and 2 hours. Metro Cebu is not far from Toledo. There is a bus to San Carlos from the North bus terminal in Cebu City.
