Shakotan is a sparsely populated peninsula on the western coast of Hokkaido, south of Otaru.

- 1 Cape Kamui. Short 30 minute hike to a light-house with beautiful views of the ocean and cost. Free.

Hike in the many designated trails in the area.

This area is bear territory. If walking or hiking in nature try to be noisy to prevent any encounters with bears.

Being a series of fishing villages along the cost, Shakotan is famous for its fresh seafood. However, most restaurants in Shakotan close by 4 pm.
- Sea House Uroku. 11:00-20:00. Small restaurant on the coast, serving fresh seafood. 1000 yen for sashimi bowl and 3000 yen for uni bowl.
- Misaki, 236 Hiduka-cho, Shakotan-gun, 046-0326, ☏ +81 135-45-6547. 9:00-?. Seafood restaurant. To acquire their special Red Bafun Uni, only available between July and August, one must arrive one hour before opening, given only 15 servings are made per day, for 5000 yen each.
