Sungai Pinang is a village on the Indian Ocean coast in West Sumatra Province, Indonesia.


Nagari Sungai Pinang (nagari is the local word for village) is in Koto XI Tarusan district, 45 km south of the city centre of Padang. It is a small fishing village with a population of about 2,000. Most of the inhabitants work as fishermen and women as farmer on the rice field. The village is between the Indian Ocean coast on the western side, and the Sungai Pinang Conservation Forest on the eastern side, with white sandy beaches along the coast.

With the rich of nature, make life very interesting in Nagari Sungai Pinang. The visitor will enjoy trekking on the wild jungle in sungai pinang forest, possibility to see the wild life of wild animals such as Gibbon family, macaque, deer, many kind of birds and if you are lucky, you may see the Sumatran tiger. Also if the visitor prefer to do marine activity, there are five islands to enjoy diving and snorkeling or canoeing along the coast. One of them is Marak Island use for centre of Gibbon rehabilitation project of Kalaweit Program Sumatra. Following the fishermen activities is also great experience, join with fishermen from the begin till finish of their job will be a good way to be local people.





Live with local family in local house will make visitor as host there, no matter if you are from anywhere. Stay with them make your self know how important to keep family-ship even actually life is not like your expectation, for them be happy and smile up is important thing to survive in bad condition. Actually, most of Nagari Sungai Pinang people is poor family but they are never give up for the poorest. Whatever happen, keep smile and happy must be..!!!
