Târgu Jiu is a city in Oltenia, Romania. It is a very old city and has had a strong tradition of mining, until recent times when most mines have been closed. It is the birth place of the famous sculpture Constantin Brâncuși and some of his earliest works can be admired here.
There are several daily trains from the capital Bucharest.
- 1 Târgu Jiu railway station (Gara Târgu Jiu), Strada Republicii.
There are two trolleybus and several diesel bus lines.
- 1 Sculptural Ensemble of Constantin Brâncuși (Ansamblul sculptural Constantin Brâncuși). The beautiful park with some of Constantin Brâncuși's sculptures.
Around the park there are several places where you can eat.
- 1 Hotel Gorj. Reasonably priced option very close to the centre of town. The outside looks a little forboding - as does the dusty lobby with its discarded and unused furniture, but the rooms are clean and bright. Twin/double 120 lei (no singles).
