Just wanted to add a comment on the piece about not throwing paper down the toilet. There is a risk of blockage, but the main problem is with the sewage treatment plants common in Mediterranean countries. They work on the 'Bio' principle. That is, all matter is passed into a large tank agitated by forced air. Bacteria consumes organic waste (crap) and the end result is water suitable for irrigation (TSE). The bacteria can't handle paper or condoms or sanitary towels/tampons. These just form a sludge which causes deterioration of the process and means the owner has to pay to have the tanks cleared. —The preceding comment was added by 82.30.15.226 (talkcontribs)
