New Commuter trains

[edit]

More info on the new commuter trains should be added to the page, especially since it's currently featured as DotM! I don't have time to sort through & add this info (don't forget adding lines to map!), but these links look good:

  • One track covers a 25km (15.5 miles) journey between Dar es Salaam's Mwakanga and Tazara railway stations and the second track runs for 20km (12.4 miles) between Ubungo-Maziwa and City railway stations. Trains will operate during the morning and evening - not in the afternoon and late at night.
  • the city train would be starting at 5 a.m. and break at 11a.m and resume again at 3pm to 8pm...He said the Tanzania Railway Limited (TRL) will be charging 400 [shillings] for adults while the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (Tazara) will be charging 500 [shillings] for adults and that both parts will be charging children and students 100 [shillings]...He said about 2,000 ticket vending stations have been earmarked for the city commuter train and that tickets will also be available at the stations, saying there will be no purchasing a ticket inside the trains.
  • the commuters would be boarding the trains, noting that they would have to line up in single file at every station, and enter in systematically on “first come, first served.” He counseled that every passenger would be required to board a train with a ticket -- which will sell from designated points...a ticket would only be valid for a single journey regardless of where a passenger disembarks, and these would be examined just like the normal tickets used by private commuter buses – no multiple tickets right now.
