Talk:Ellsworth (Maine)
History
[edit]Wow, that's a lot of history. I'm not sure if that much detail is useful in a travel guide. Could we cut it back to a paragraph or two? There is a link to Wikipedia for those wishing an encyclopedic treatment. (WT-en) Maj 22:01, 5 February 2007 (EST)
Reducing HISTORY of Ellsworth, Maine
[edit]Hi Maj
Just found your comment, and agree. In fact, I cut ALL the Ellsworth, Maine history out after I updated the Wikipedia entry. However, one of the regulars reverted it!
Now I realise that the editor probably didn't realise that I was the one who wrote the history in the first place, and thought my cut was vadalism.
I've just cut out part of the history and will re-think the rest over the next few days. Now that I understand Wikivoyage better, I can see that this sort of history detail is unnecessary for travellers.
I also learned to enter the appropriate link to direct people from Wikivoyage to Wikipedia.
BTW, Ellsworth, Maine is my hometown -- even though I now live on the other side of the earth!
Thanks for your polite feedback. It's much appreciated.
