Good start. One question is whether you can get out onto the Great Lakes from the Buffalo end of the canal. I find myself wondering if the history section should be shortened.
There are other canal itineraries, at least Rideau Canal and Along the Grand Canal. Do they have ideas you could use? (WT-en) Pashley 12:37, 26 July 2012 (EDT)
- The geography is a little confusing without a map, which I hope to include at some point. The Get in/By boat section says "The canal starts just north of Buffalo between Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, where the canalized Tonawanda Creek flows into the Niagara River. It's only a mile or two downstream (north) from Lake Erie, so you have easy access from any of the upper Great Lakes..." Is that not sufficiently clear about access to the Great Lakes? - Clear enough, I would say. History sections are always tricky. I love to be able to read up on backgrounds without being forced to head over to Wikipedia or so. However, when they are as long on WT as this one, I would ideally have (the larger part) hidden behind some kind of dropdown header, or something. I don't know if WT uses something like that though? For the rest: seems like a fine article in the making. A few things I wonder now (which you were perhaps already planning to add, but still:)
- You write that for short trips (couple of hours) you need no permit and small boats are readily available. How about serious trips of say a week or more, if you're not coming there with your own boat? Is finding a boat just as trivial then, or would I be best of heading to a particular town? Some rough indications of rental prices are a must, I think.
- It's an itinerary, but I can't say I have any idea now of how long it would take to complete (minimum).
- I assume you'll include some list of recommended communities or towns along the way?
- Do those picturesque communities have plenty of lodging options? And is it in fact safe enough to leave your boat and stay in a hotel? (WT-en) Justme 07:32, 28 July 2012 (EDT)
