Should we make a mention of the corrupt police department? From what I understand the three indicted officers haven't been pulled off the force and the police chief is still on the job. Pets on Fire Island[edit]
Are there any pet restrictions on the island or in the camping areas?
They should Call It "Misquito Island"[edit]
I camped for one night at the campsite about 3 years ago, what a nightmare. As soon as I stepped off the ferry and onto the boardwalk, I was attacked by some fierce misquitos. By the time I reached the site I was assigned to, I had about 10 bites . There is a small general store there near the ferry dock, so I bought a can of Ben's brand spray repellent. They attack morning, noon and night. It's a shame they have so many darn misquitos. The campsite rental was cheap and the park service Rangers are courteous and helpful. The highlight was the ferry ride to the island. It would be a perfect campsite without the misquitos. Campsite is short walk to beach.
