Name Change

I have no opinion. It's worth noting that this disambig format is more general than just city, state -- it's the same format for any disambiguation. But we should stick with the standard unless that standard is changed. Actually I think it makes less sense to call the place Huntsville, Alabama than Huntsville (Alabama) because if I want to call it Huntsville all I write is [[Huntsville (Alabama)|]] not [[Huntsville, Alabama|Huntsville]]. It is less work, surprisingly! Besides we only need the (Alabama), or whatever, if there are two or more Huntsvilles. In probably 90% - 99% of cases there is only one place with the name that we want to write about and have a page for. That means most of the time if we enforced a name, state format we would do too much typing and we would have a lot of redirects from places called name to name, state when there was no need. We might even end up with two articles, one called name and one called name, state. Besides you are also too UnitedStatesOfAmericaO'Centrick, nobody else in the world wants to put their state name after their place name, just to get a unique name. We just call it by the place name and make sure that there is a good national place name approval process so that not too many important places get a duplicate name. Another thing, if I write [[Huntsville (Alabama)|]],[[Alabama]] then I get Huntsville,Alabama and two links for the price of one and a bit. Each name takes me to the article the name represents and one qualifies the other. -- 02:04, 30 Dec 2005 (EST)

Listings

I just rolled back the addition of what looked like and A-Z list of hotels and restaurants. I know it was probably a lot of work to add (and it can all be found in the history, so it's not lost) but it's not one of our goals to provide a list of every place in a town -- just the ones worth recommending! Let's try and get it down to around 5 of each per budget range (ie 5 budget restaurants, 5 midrange, etc...). Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks (WT-en) Maj 21:12, 13 January 2007 (EST)

I shortened the list of restaurants and split some of the larger districts to make it easier for non-residents. I didn't know many of the restaurants' price ranges, so I will leave the budget/midrange/splurge categorization to someone else. Also, for a city of Huntsville's size, it is VERY hard to choose only 15 restaurants out of hundreds. But choosing 10 per district was quite easy, so I left it at that. Hmm, We manage to do the 5-7 lists for Huge cities like New York and Mexico City, so we should be able to pull it off for Huntsville too-- image you have a friend or relative in town, you would probably have a pretty short list of place to recommend, right? For example, I bet "Red Lobster""Hooters" and "TGIFs" are not that different from the same chain places elsewhere in the US, so they can go... What if my friend likes TGIF's and Red Lobster? I don't agree with deleting the chains, but I'll leave it alone for now. And why was the list of hotels deleted again? Seriously, the way it looks now, it's pitiful. If I were a tourist, I would like to know about more than 3 mid-high range hotels and some cabins. I split it into the three price ranges this site uses, and at least one from each popular district- South Huntsville, University Drive West and East, and Madison/Airport.
