I think we should have an article for each beach, since they're kind of small towns. --(WT-en) Evan 11:35, 13 Apr 2004 (EDT)

Inter-village Songthaew from Bus Terminal to Ban Phae[edit]

The inter-village songthaew from the in-town bus terminal out to Ban Phae is not based on a pickup truck. It is more like a troop transport or a dump truck. 202.142.210.188 03:43, 27 Aug 2005 (EDT)

I'm just noting it for whoever is maintaining this page now. Frankly, I've given up on Wikivoyage because the admins (in my opinion) are a little too zealous in their editing e.g. clearing external links at the drop of a hat. In this case I originally had an link to the Wikipedia page on Songthaews, which has a picture of the inter-village style of songthaew. Whoever edited it away must have missed the distinction but somehow I'd still feel responsible if anyone goes out there and wastes an hour looking for a pickup truck. Sorry you had some problems with extlink stuff; see Project:external links for info on what kind of links we want and why. Sounds like you ran into a Wikipedia link problem; see Project:links to Wikipedia for how we usually make those. If you don't like the policies on extlinks and Wikipedia links, please give us your opinion on those talk pages.
I think that not just administrators, but everybody, should try to edit articles so they conform to the manual of style. That way we get better, more consistent guides throughout the site. If you don't think that's a good idea, well, please let us know why. It could make Wikivoyage a better site overall.
Anyhow, I've changed the word "pickup truck" to "open-back truck". Feel free to make it "dump truck" or "troop transport" or whatever you think is more appropriate. Last time I was on Koh Samet, it was a real pickup truck. --(WT-en) Evan 16:04, 2 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Environment[edit]

I reverted [1] the addition of the following paragraph:

  • Environment
It is unfortunate that trash can be found nearly everywhere on this island. It is not recommended that you walk barefoot on the beach because of all the broken glass. And please don't accidentally swallow the sea water as few resorts treat their sewage and the sewage runs straight into the ocean via little creeks. In case you wonder about the smell, this is what it is.

This gives the impression that if you go to Ko Samet you won't see anyone walking barefoot, that the sea is full of raw sewage, and that the beaches have an unpleasant smell, which is completely untrue. It's an extremely popular destination so for sure it's never going to be litter-free, but this is unremarkable compared with other popular destinations. ~ 203.147.0.48 11:47, 31 August 2007 (EDT)

TAT Listings[edit]

Placed some listings of TAT at Talk:Ko Samet/Listings for future reference. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 23:31, 2 February 2010 (EST)

Environment:

I have walked all over the island in 9 days and found it extremely dirty and full of garbage everywhere. In the middle of the island is a large place where all types of garbage are exposed and burned (it looked like "smoky mountains" in Manila), it is a shame and one wonders why the tourists have to pay 200 Bath entry fee to this so called National Park. The big majority of tourists, Thais and foreigners alike, just stay at the beaches and don't care about the rest of the island. However, everything has to be imported from the mainland and therefore the environement is suffering severely and the prices for everthing are rather high. This island is unfortunately completely overloaded with hotels, restaurants and shops, it has not the size to accomodate so many infrastructures and the authorities seem unable and probably unwilling to protect and preserve the environment and natural beauty of the place. Trouble Editing[edit]

I tried editing the beach info (to remove obvious advertising and explaining the fireshow) but after I click save, it reverts back to the old one. What am I doing wrong?

FYI, this is what I see as obvious advertising. A fireshow at the renowned Ploy Thalee Restaurant/Bar on Saikaew Beach. They are held twice a night around 8.30PM and 10.30PM. The kids that do the show walk up and down the beach and can be seen from any restaurant.

My updates are now visible. Thanks Mods.
