Lung yer bins[edit]
So my Norwegian is pretty cræppy, but Longyearbyen is definitely not pronounced "long year bye-n" as if it were English, and "Lungyerbin" is how my ears hear it. (WT-en) Jpatokal 05:52, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
When I was there I heard people saying it like 'long-year-byin', although many Norwegians miss out the 'y', making 'long-year-bin', but I've never heard the 'lung' part. Is a pronunciation guide really necessary here? Since the name was derived from English anyway, Norwegians understand the common English pronunciation just fine. - Re: long vs lung, I think I know what you mean, but it's definitely not an American-style lawng. And maybe it's just me, but I find Norwegian pronunciations really unintuitive (cf. wikipedia:Geilo, pron. "yay-loo"), so pronunciation keys are quite handy... Trouble with PDF conversion[edit]
This page converts to readable PDF file and downloads normally. However, if I make any annotation to downloaded file (e.g., highlight word or phrase), am unable to (re)save it...generates Adobe Reader error message. Is only article I've found with this issue. Regrets, cannot figure out how to report problem through Wikimedia channels. Hennejohn (talk) 19:36, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
