accommodation listings

[edit]

There are such a vast array of non-descript guesthouses that the accommodation listing has become quiet cumbersome Perhaps we should trim the list to only include some of the more notable providers, I'm not sure how much it helps anyone to list a business if you have nothing really to say about it. Do we want to write a guide, or an encyclopedia?

I would be reluctant to remove any listings without consensus here because people have clearly put a lot of effort into writing the listings, but maybe a trim down is in order If we just said "there are also a slew of similar non-decript guesthouses in the streets x,y,z surely this would do the job

Why is the pronunciation given as "LOH proh-BAHNG"?!? Unless that's a local accent, surely "luang phabang" (where "ph" = aspirated "p" is more accurate)?

Anyone know of budget or low-mid-range hotels in Luang Prabang that have internet (wireless or wired) in the rooms?

In Vientiane, Inter Hotel has free wireless in the rooms, the cheapest of which cost $15/night.

Cheers.

Does anyone know what the target price for goods in the night market should be after bargaining?? This would be great information!

ASEAN / Asian

[edit]

ASEAN = The Association of Southeast Asian Nations. This is not a typo for "Asian". I accidentally hit the submit button before adding an edit reason with this change. -- (WT-en) Ryan (talk) 10:22, 1 June 2010 (EDT)

Accommodation listings outside of Luang Prabang

[edit]

So, everyone, do you think any accommodations outside of town should be listed in this guide? If so, how far out of town? Would 30 minutes' drive be OK? For the record, I think nothing at all outside of town should be listed, period. But let's reach a consensus. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 05:17, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

I'm not as concerned with the fact it's 30 minutes out of town as with the fact that its pure advertising from a marketing company (check http://www.appletree-asia.com), and it doesn't state prices as well. For these reasons i'd wipe all their entrys.(WT-en) Swissbelg 21:22, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

Alms ceremony

[edit]

The text (rightly) advises tourists to Luang Prabang not to get too close to the monks at the morning alms ceremony and to strongly consider watching only from a distance - yet the photo illustrating it (before I removed it) was a close-up, setting the wrong example. 58.9.35.209 09:59, 12 May 2011 (EDT)

"Vietnam Bar"

[edit]

The only references to this online appear to be either from <2006 or this article and I've never heard any reference to it on either of my visits in 2009 and 2011. The tuk tuks gathered around Utopia/Hive/Lao Lao Garden all go to the bowling alley. Am I right in assuming that it doesn't exist any more and can be removed in an update to the Drink section? (WT-en) Enigmatic 10:25, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

Don't know for sure if it still exists anymore or not, but this sounds like a good enough reason to eliminate it. It can always be added back in later if someone feels it necessary.(WT-en) texugo 10:38, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

Paragraph moved

[edit]

I moved the last paragraph of the "history" section to the "understand" section because it does not relate to history at all. (WT-en) Rbakels 09:59, 28 January 2012 (EST)

Arthouse Cafe

Should Arthouse Cafe be added to the list of cafes? It is number 2 on tripadvisor. I haven't visited, so I'd leave it to someone else to actually give it a little review like the other cafes. 74.99.171.188 20:23, 20 April 2012 (EDT)
