Translation issue

[edit]

I'm new to Wikivoyage, and don't know to what extent Wikipedia's usual writing style applies here. I'm quite accustomed to their "neutral point of view" approach, but suspect that Wikivoyage's style would be different, as travel writing tends to be. So here is a translation of three lines that were in Spanish in the article, but which I'm unsure deserve to be included in the eventual article:

  • Si deseas pasar unas lindas vacaciones en El Salvador, no olvides visitar a Morazan. If you wish to spend a lovely vacation in El Salvador, don't forget to visit Morazán.
  • Morazan tiene muchos lugares turisticos donde tu aprenderas y te relajaras mucho.Morazán has many tourist locations where you will learn and relax. (English style would say, "for learning and relaxation.")
  • Estas son unos de los lugares con los que Morazan cuenta:Here are a few of the places of Morazán:

None of these sentences really sounds right for Wikipedia, but they might be fine for Wikivoyage. I leave it to someone else to educate me on this; I will go on to read the help pages as time goes on, but I have only a few minutes today.(WT-en) Lawikitejana 17:50, 15 December 2006 (EST)

Sure! You may want to start with our manual of style, which covers a lot of our writing and formatting guidelines. In particular, we try to keep the prose tight and compact -- people are going to be carrying these guides around in their backpacks, after all. We don't have a strictly neutral point of view for Wikivoyage -- here, the traveller comes first, and we try to think of our readers' practical needs ahead of others'. We do try to be fair, though. In any case, we ask that contributors don't tout -- we're writing guides for and by travellers, not promotional brochures. Thanks for your help here! --(WT-en) Evan 22:57, 15 December 2006 (EST)
