Ogasawara Islands, Ogasawara Archipelago and Bonin islands
[edit]After skimming the Japanese Wikipedia, it seems that there is some confusion in the names:
- Ogasawara Archipelago (小笠原諸島, Ogasawara Shotō) comprises all these islands, which can be divided in several groups:
- Ogasawara Islands, also known as "Bonin islands", which comprise the Mukojima group, the Chichijima group and the Hahajima group.
- Nishino shima, on the west of these, but in the same volcanic group than…
- the Volcano Islands, including Iwo Jima
- Two other islands, Okinotori shima, far in the south-west, and Minamitori shima, far in the south-est.
To add to the confusion, the Japanese Wikipedia page for "Ogasawara Shotō" (the whole archipelago) mentions "Ogasawara Islands" as the English name, and so does the UNESCO page.
So I think that whatever is the "official" English name (Islands or Archipelago), the article should not mention that "Ogasawara Shotō" = "Bonin Island". Note that I changed the Wikidata link so this page points to "Ogasawara Shotō". To whoever has the motivation to rephrase it. — Fabimaru (talk) 19:17, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
