Talk:Pidgin
Add topicI don't think we need this, since we already have Tok Pisin phrasebook. That article, however, might benefit from a brief note that Tok Pisin is just one of various Pidgin languages (cited already in the phrasebook) and a pointer to the obvious Wikipedia article. Rather than going through a VFD, would anybody object to a redirect to the phrasebook? -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 15:08, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
More pidgins now
[edit]This page was redirected to Tok Pisin after a VFD in 2007 (Project:Votes for deletion/April 2007#Pidgin). The decision was controversial, and based on the fact that Tok Pisin was at that time the only pidgin language which had a phrasebook. This is no longer the case, with the Bislama phrasebook.
We also have ten country articles (if I counted correctly) which refer to various pidgin languages/dialects. A traveler going to one of those countries might easily search for "pidgin" and feel he had the correct phrasebook when he was redirected to Tok Pisin, unless he had a good background in linguistics terminology.
I think it is time we revisit that decision and make this "pidgin" page into a disambiguation page, referring users to either Tok Pisin or Bislama, and adding a definition for "pidgin". --(WT-en) Bill in STL 03:37, 24 August 2010 (EDT)
- I definitely agree that this should be a disambiguation, perhaps with a little bit of a travel topic–style introduction. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:55, 24 August 2010 (EDT)
