Cavanal Hill[edit]

I was asked on my talk page:

It is a 45 minute drive to the top of Cavanal Hill. I suggest this is really a "Do" and not a "See". I should have maybe added that the trip takes that long. If you want to "See" Cavanal Hill, that can be done from about a 75 mile radius. I can see the hill from Fort Smith, Arkansas and it is about a 45 minute drive from the base of the hill. Can this not be put under "Do"? I hope to add a picture of the hill sometime in the future. If I am wrong on this, please let me know. (WT-en) Xltel 10:42, 9 Jan 2006 (EST)

My reply
I put the listing for Cavanal Hill under the See section because it was talking about the view from the top, and the See section was empty, while the Do section had two listings. Also most natural scenery gets described under the See section, while taking a Walk etc. amongst the scenery gets put under the Do section. I checked both the Project:article templates and Project:Where you can stick it and find that there is no hard and fast rule! Also I had not realised there was such an effort to get there, thinking it was just a simple as you are driving by thing. -- (WT-en) Huttite 15:07, 9 Jan 2006 (EST)

I suppose the distinction between See and Do depends on the balance between effort and scenery. If you had to walk up the hill, and the walk up or down was really the attraction, then it would definitely be a Do activity. However, in this case I think it is more in the See section, because the scenery is is the object of the attraction, the getting there is somewhat incidental part of the seeing experience. The fact you can drive (or be driven?) there rather than walk also makes me think of it as a See attraction. Also you do not need to do the drive to see the hill. I think you Do a hill or mountain if you climb it (and when you get to the top there is the view), but See the same place if you can drive there in a car, perhaps with a little walk, for the view. And you would still Do the trails, even if you never got to the top, so the one attraction could even be listed under both sections! -- (WT-en) Huttite 15:28, 9 Jan 2006 (EST)

Usually parks are put under "see" (as noted in Project:Where you can stick it), and outdoor sports are listed under "Do". It's a tossup and if someone has a strong preference to put this hill under "Do" I don't think there's too much of a problem. --(WT-en) Evan 17:32, 9 Jan 2006 (EST)
