Deliberate insult?[edit]

Unlike India, there are no cows, beggars, piles of garbage or people pissing on the street in Singapore's Little India, so yeah, it's sanitized. (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:11, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

I've got to agree with Jani here - Singapore's Little India is exactly what you would expect to find in India if the government suddenly implemented huge fines for littering, profanity, etc and then dumped a ton of money into sanitation. I don't know that calling it a "microcosm of India" would actually be accurate, since in my experience you can't find anything like it in India. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 23:49, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Time formats[edit]

May I recommend using the same time formats for all the Singapore articles?

Our main Singapore city state article has Star status and uses the universally understood, unambiguous and usually shorter 24 hour time format (as does Singapore/East Coast). --118.93nzp (talk) 02:05, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New page banner[edit]

Current page banner is simply beautiful but it doesn't identifies the district well so I'm came up with 2 recommendations. --Saqib (talk) 22:02, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think a banner image does need to identify the district well or even at all.
It's simply eye candy that should not provide a cluttered or poorly contrasting background for the title which does identify (adequately and completely) the district that the rest of the article is about.
Both of your proposed banners above fail because:
  1. They are both grossly inferior in terms of visual appeal
  2. They are both grossly inferior because they are cluttered and squalid and provide a more muddled background both for the title and for the (incomplete) horizontal ToC.
View many of our banners on small screens such as notebooks have and you should be able to see instantly what I am banging on about... --118.93nzp (talk) 22:12, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know my proposed banners above are not best in quality but still they give the impression of the district. This page states banners offer a visual introduction to an area and lately, we were discussing the same here. --Saqib (talk) 22:21, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the links, Saquib.
I would highlight what one of your links currently says: " (page banners) make the first impression of our guides more eye-catching (and) give our guides a fresh and more modern look... The page banner can be much more than just 'decoration' for an article. The best banners offer a visual introduction to an area and challenge people's preconceived ideas"
Your second banner proposal is the least worst of these inferior replacements - but I still prefer the existing banner as both more eye-catching and giving a fresh and visually attractive appearance. Sorry! --118.93nzp (talk) 22:35, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
