"South Country is a region in Rhode Island and is the same as Washington County" -- does that mean this should be Washington County? or should there at least be a redirect from one to the other? (WT-en) Majnoona 14:17, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

South County!?[edit]

I was born and raised in Narragansett, and I still live here. Let me say one thing. All you folks that think South County is the same thing as Washington County are grossly misinformed.

South County is a general region without distinct borders, which vary greatly depending on who you talk to. If anything it is more a state of mind than an actual location. South County is about the summer lifestyle surrounding Rhode Island's beach mainly seasonal coastal communities and villages. It is unanimously agreed upon to encompass Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingston, Narragansett, and North Kingston, as they are coastal places with coastal lifestyles. Also unanimously agreed upon to be part of South County is the village of Wickford, part of East Greenwhich, which is part of Kent County. Often Jamestown fits into the "South County" category as well, a community that is part of Newport County. Hopkington, Richmond, and Exeter are Swamp Yankee (That's Rhode Island speak for hillbilly) terriroty. They are usually left out of the typical sense of South County, but are included in a broad sense, along with West Greenwhich.

Just so you know. See you at the beach. —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 131.128.149.52 (talkcontribs)

I amended that introduction—sound good? If not, please plunge forward and fix it yourself! Know, though, that the regions here tend to be fairly pragmatic. It's simple to just use the more interesting name (south county), but use the well defined borders of Washington Co. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:16, 26 February 2009 (EST)
This page should be moved to Washington County and South County left as a redirect. The use of such an ambiguous name is confusing. --Mu301 (talk) 23:57, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
