Stay safe section

[edit]

This article about Springfield, Illinois is ludicrous. The comments about crime have created a lot of humor in the local paper. The metropolitan area of Springfield is close to 170,000 ... I have no idea where the 600,000 figure came from. This is based on the Forbes article a few years back, which is the result of a statistical anomaly. Nobody is afraid to walk around in Springfield. This is a joke, and you really need to verify your information on these sites if you are to have any credibility at all! —The preceding comment was added by 98.222.3.49 (talkcontribs)

Edit the darn "Stay Safe" section! But do so in a way that's actually helpful to travelers. You need to provide useful information, not just complain that locals don't believe the place is unsafe. Poke around the site and look at other cities' "Stay Safe" sections. For example, New York City has a low crime rate nowadays, but the "Stay Safe" section is not blank. And please sign your posts on talk pages by typing 4 tildes (the "~" key) in a row, so that we know who's talking. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 12:11, 4 May 2012 (EDT)

This is the most insane piece of garbage I have ever read. Civic journalism? Yeah, right! More like incorrect reporting and blatant slander. While there is danger in every city -- including Springfield!-- the "stay safe" section is incorrect and disrespectful. You should be ashamed of your inability to verify facts, if nothing else. That being said, go to Springfield! Try a horseshoe! Visit Lincoln sites! You're just a safe there as anywhere else. —The preceding comment was added by 165.134.208.160 (talkcontribs)

The article that appears to have generated the above criticism is . Apparently neither the author of that article nor those commenting above noticed the "Edit" link next to the "Stay safe" section, which they (and anyone else) are welcome to use to fix any inaccuracies. To those commenting: please be aware that, like Wikipedia, anyone can edit this site, and it is expected that if you see something that is incorrect that YOU will fix it by editing the article - simply complaining is likely to be mostly ignored. -- (WT-en) Ryan (talk) 15:11, 4 May 2012 (EDT)
