Tonnes is a small village in Nordland, and the third largest village in Helgeland.


Lying right beside the coast means the climate is fairly temperate thanks to warm air from the Gulf Stream. Summer weather is cool and pleasant. In winter temperatures hover just above or below freezing - far warmer than other places in the area.

By plane[edit]

The closest airport is Røssvoll (MQN IATA) in Mo i Rana

By car[edit]

About 80 km (50 mi) north on RV17 from Nesna or 250 km south on RV 17 from Bodø. You can altså drive from E6 and Mo i Rana and follow RV12 for about 100 km (62 mi).

By bus[edit]

There is a bus arriving from Nesna and Mo i Rana twice a day. It is operated by Nordlandsbuss Nordlandsbuss

By boat[edit]

Tonnes Harbor is a connection point for the boat trafikk in the region. There boats from Sandessjøen and Bodø arrives twice a day. It is operated by TorgHatten Nord Information Torghatten Nord


  • Hiking. The beautiful mountains have a lot of marked trips.
  • Fishing. It is possible to rent a boat from the Harbor og just fish from the rocks.


Buying alcohol in stores[edit]

Beer can be purchased in the supermarket at a cost of 10-16 kr for a 0.33l bottle. Supermarkets stop selling beer after 8pm each day, 6pm on Saturdays, and 3pm on holiday weekends. It is not possible to buy beer in a shop on a Sunday. Hard liquor or wine can only be bought at state-owned shops called Vinmonopolet. The closest one is in Mo i Rana

Pubs and bars[edit]

  • OscarBrygga, . Local pub and restaurant. Good food and reasonable price for Norway. Sometimes closed during the winter. Have a lot of special events during the summer.


Getting a place to stay in Tonnes is reasonable. In peak periods (the summer) you probably need to book in advance. OscarBrygga is offering cabins and rooms by the shore. Often in the summer you can rent rent private rooms cheaper. Look for signs by the way.


Internet access[edit]

There are free, open wifi at the cafe OscarBrygga and also around the cabins near the harbour. There is ok 3G coverage with the Telenor Operator.

Stay safe[edit]

Crime is not a problem in Tonnes. The village is known to be safe.


It is easy to get around in Tonnes. Most people will respond in English to any question you may have. The young Norwegians also speak some German.
