Tutuila is the most populous island in American Samoa, and is home to its capital, Pago Pago, and principal airport.
Tutuila is a fairly small and narrow island, measuring roughly 33 km (21 mi) across and little more than 3 mi (4.8 km) from north to south at its widest point.

- Mount ʻAlava peak (483 km (300 mi)) on the northern part of the island has a trail with a metal stairway from the southern end which goes right up to the peak
