Uitgeest was the birthplace (in 1550) of Cornelis Corneliszoon, inventor of the wind-powered sawmill.

Get in[edit]

The village has a train station and an excellent bus service that provides access to neighboring areas and Amsterdam.

Get around[edit]

Tweede Broekermolen

Uitgeest is a pretty village. Five windmills can be seen in the polder landscape surrounding the village.

It's recommended to rent a bike from a local bike shop. The lake on the outskirts past the marina is excellent for swimming and safe for young children as a child-friendly area is cordoned off.

Go next[edit]

Haarlem and Alkmaar are not that far from Uitgeest by train. You can cycle to the Zaanstreek.
