James S. Hayasaka grew up in Honolulu, on the Island of Oahu. He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a BS in Geology and Geophysics, and then went on to be a computer nerd. After living in California for a few years, the islands called him back home. He currently lives on the Big Island of Hawaii, in Hilo.

This is not to say that he's been stuck on an island for his whole life. James has been to numerous countries including Japan, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, and Chile. He's even been to Easter Island.
