I recently met a Zulu called Lulu who is caring for my mother in law in a nursing home in England. I worked in Natal from 1975 to 1983 and had some basic zulu command words. However, when I was confronted by Lulu and asked to speak some Zulu all I could think of was "Woza lappa," and "pendula," which as I remember means come here and turn over. Obviously this is totally inappropriate, but with greater thought I remembered " Nyabonga" which I think is thankyou, and "Hamba Wheatata lo sandu" Go and fetch me a hammer, which is still not a lot of use. Any further clues would be appreciated. Nyabonga.
