Khar-Us Lake is a freshwater lake in the depression of the Great Lakes of Western Mongolia. The lake is one of the four lakes in Mongolia with an area of ​​more than a thousand square kilometers. It is surrounded by the Mongolian Altai Mountains. Black-Us Lake belongs to the category of lakes with hydrocarbonate water in ionic composition.

The waters and wetlands of Khar-Us Lake are located about 1,600 km from Ulaanbaatar city and 20 km east of Hovd city in Hovd province. The basin of the Black Water Lakes is located in the central part of the Great Lakes Depression, surrounded by the Altai Mountains to the west, the Sayan Mountains to the south, the Khangai Mountains to the east, and the former Gobi-Altayn Mountains. The Khovd, Buyant, and Tsenher rivers flow into the Chonoharaikh River.

You can see big lake and 270 species of birds belonging to 35 families of 17 groups have been recorded in the vicinity of Khar-Us Lake, which is about 20% of the total number of bird species recorded in Mongolia. According to the type of habitat, 140 species are migratory, 55 are resident, 45 are transient, 20 are occasional, 3 are summer, and 7 are winter. Among the birds listed in the Red Book are the pelican (Pelecanus crispus), spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia), black stork (Ciconia nigra), whooping crane (Grus vipio), whooping crane (Grus grus), white-toed swan (Cygnus olor), swan ( Cygnus cygnus), Cape goose (Anser cygnoides), Field goose (Anser indicus), White-headed goat (Oxyura leucocephala), White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), Altai hornbill (Tetraogallus altaicus).
